Shauna Shang
Piano Teacher
A captivating soloist and collaborative pianist, Shauna Shang is a talented, soulful, and expressive performer devoted to piano and chamber music performance. Shauna was born into a musical family in China, and her piano studies began at age four after watching her grandmother play in an exhibition. At age twelve, she was accepted to the Shenyang Conservatory of Music (SCOM), one of China’s top music schools.
From a young age, Shauna traveled widely to participate in competitions and music festivals. After graduating with distinction from SCOM in 2013, she was invited to the United States as a finalist in the New York Concert Festival. She subsequently performed in several major New York venues, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
Shauna received advanced training at the Manhattan School of Music, studying piano performance with Nina Svetlanova and collaborative piano performance with Dr. Heasook Rhee. She has been actively performing and accompanying in various concerts and recitals, appearing as a soloist, collaborative pianist, and chamber musician. She has participated in numerous chamber groups and master classes coached by Philippe Müller, Nicholas Mann, Laurie Carney, Curtis Macomber, David Geber, Julia Lichten, Pascual Martínez-Forteza, and Paul Cohen. In 2019, Shauna had the honor of being invited by SCOM to co-direct their annual concert.
She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and completed her Master of Music Education degree at the Aaron Copland School of Music. Shauna also holds New York State Teacher Certifications in music for grades K–12.
Shauna has an extensive teaching background that includes nearly a decade of running her own private studio and serving as a faculty collaborative pianist at the Manhattan School of Music. Recognized as a Steinway Educational Partner, Shauna received the prestigious title of Top Piano Teacher by Steinway in 2022, 2023 and 2024. She also coaches chamber music each summer as a faculty member of The Artists Program Chamber Music Festival. In addition to teaching her private piano students throughout Long Island, she has been a member of the piano faculty at Suzuki on the Island in Manhasset since 2021.
